The UMF Storage site is located on an old RAF base known ad RAF Long Newnton, during the first world war it was an operational RAF Base. RAF Long Newnton’s main purpose was to store Ammunition and Bombs, there was also an aerial gunnery range on site to train the pilots. After the first world war all the bombs and ammunition were safely removed. In 1939 the RAF base was made into a decoy base with strategic lighting implemented to fool and confuse German bombers and stop the RAF pilots landing here. In 1940 the base was used as a training base and relief landing ground, the base was operation in this way for 7 years. In 1947 the Land was sold for agricultural use, all the way up until 2015 where the self storage site UMF was established.
